From waste to worth: Circular pathways for decarbonising environment
Events
RECONSTRUCT workshop at Sustainable Places, Milan, 10 October 2025, 09.00 - 10.30 CET
On 10 October, RECONSTRUCT is joining the Sustainable Places international fair with a workshop on the decarbonisation of buildings, alongside fellow projects SIRCULAR, DeCO2 and INBUILT.
As the buildings and construction sector is responsible for 39% of global CO2 emissions, low-impact construction materials and techniques are crucial for reducing the carbon footprint of existing buildings. Recycling and deconstructing materials, including construction and demolition waste (CDW), play a key role in this transition.
This workshop will demonstrate how European projects are tackling these issues from various perspectives. Besides RECONSTRUCT, SIRCULAR and DeCO2 are developing methodologies for sustainable deconstruction and reuse, introducing dynamic decarbonisation pathways; INBUILT promotes urban mining and circular construction by integrating digitisation with reused and bio-based materials.
Together, these projects present an innovative approach to enabling the integrated decarbonisation of buildings. This session aims to identify key strategies for accelerating Europe’s just and circular transformation by connecting digital innovation, urban mining strategies, and citizen engagement.
SAVE THE DATE: Friday 10 October 9:00-10:30 CET, Room 1

Three breakout sessions will give participants the opportunity to exchange ideas and collaborate with other projects and stakeholder groups. Finally, a closing reflection will then bring participants back together to shape a shared agenda for cities and communities to move “from waste to worth” in their pursuit of carbon neutrality, circularity, and long-term resilience.
