How is the Brussels demo building getting on?
Project update
An interview with composite manufacturer Holland Composites
Project partner Holland Composites, a composite manufacturer, is responsible for producing the concrete flooring elements developed within the RECONSTRUCT project. They will also produce the complete casco structure of a two-storey demo building using their Duplicor bio-composite elements (www.duplicor.nl). The concrete flooring elements will be integrated into this structure as subflooring. Holland Composites will assemble the demo building on site in Brussels.
We interviewed them about the Belgian demo building.
What makes the Belgian demo building special?
The combination of bio-composite laminates, Argo waste resin and recycled PET foam creates the casco structure of the demo building in accordance with our QBIX building system. This combination with concrete sub-flooring elements is unique for a building of this kind. For more information about the materials and techniques used, please visit www.duplicor.nl and www.qbix.nl.
How long does the construction take?
The production of the casco building parts in our factory using moulds took just four weeks. Pre-assembly of the two-storey demo building in our factory took two weeks, and on-site assembly is planned to take one week.
So, how is the construction of the Belgian demo going?
We have finished constructing all the parts using our innovative Duplicor bio-composite material. The subassembly of the complete Brussels demo building is ready. Transport and assembly of the demo building are planned from Monday 24 November until the end of the week.
Finally, what do you think the future of the construction sector will be like?
We believe that the sector will increasingly turn towards the use of bio-based and recycled materials. Prefabricated modular building parts combined with a construction concept using dry connections will prevail over traditional building methods. Buildings must be designed to be relocatable.
