NextBuilt 2026 – International Conference on Challenges for the Next Generation Built Environment
Events
The construction and renovation sector is still largely structured around fragmented and linear processes, making it difficult to scale circular practices beyond isolated pilots and project-based experimentation.
Circular renovation is therefore not only a technical or material challenge. It requires a broader reconfiguration of value chains, workflows, stakeholder roles, and coordination mechanisms across the built environment ecosystem.
At NEXTBUILT 2026 on 5 June 2026 in Bologna, Italy, RECONSTRUCT will be represented by Giovanni Amigoni, Business Innovation Officer at ICONS, that will present a cross-project reflection on how circular renovation is reshaping processes and stakeholder interactions across the built environment sector.
The presentation builds on desk research, survey activities and evidence gathered from RECONSTRUCT partners, among several other Horizon Europe initiatives, with a specific focus on:
- evolving stakeholder roles across circular value chains,
- material and waste-flow management,
- interoperability and data exchange
- governance and coordination mechanisms required to operationalise circular workflows.
Particular attention will be given to the emergence of new actors and functions within circular renovation ecosystems, as well as to the barriers that still prevent circular approaches from scaling effectively.
Through the participation to this event, the project contributes to the ongoing discussion on how circularity can move from policy ambition and pilot experimentation towards operational and scalable renovation models across the built environment sector.
